EMI Music Services’ mission is to provide EMI’s roster of artists – as well as independent labels and artists – with a global menu of commercial services and seamless access to an expanding range of revenue streams and business models.
Key appointments include merchandising and packaged goods veteran Peter Palmer to head EMI’s new global Merchandising group; Dominic Pandiscia who leads a now global Label Services unit; and Violet Gonzalez, who joins EMI from Live Nation to establish a new Sponsorship capability; together with other senior executives in the EMI Music Services global team.
“Music Services is all about delivering revenues to EMI’s artists, as well as to the independent label and artist community. We now have the industry’s only one-stop shop for accessing a global marketplace of traditional and non-traditional commercial partners,” said Werre. “This team has already shown that focus and solid execution can provide unique value to EMI’s roster and associated artists in key functions like licensing, synch and distribution and we are now expanding that offering to include merchandising and sponsorship.”

Digital TV switch still set for Feb. 17
With the mandatory transition to digital broadcasting already a confusing proposition for the TV-consuming public, the fight to delay the switchover has emerged as one of the first nasty partisan scrums of the new Obama administration.

Barton
On Wednesday, House Republicans defeated a bill that would have pushed until June 12 the deadline by which TV stations must surrender their analog spectrum allotment and begin broadcasting exclusively in digital format. That leaves the original Feb. 17 deadline for that transition intact — at least for now.

Rockefeller
Introduced to the House floor under special expedited conditions that required a two-thirds vote, the bill fell just 32 votes short. It can be reintroduced on the regular congressional calendar next week, when it will require only a simple majority for passage.
Even if Wednesday’s defeat for the Democrats only delays the inevitable passage of the bill, however, the wrangling over when TV broadcast signals are switched over seems to fly in the face of the feel-good, bipartisan agenda widely touted in Washington only a week ago.

Universal bringing back ‘The Thing’
Universal will add a new chapter to “The Thing,” lining up another take on the paranoid horror classic most recently brought to the screen by John Carpenter in 1982.

Film will use the same source material as John Carpenter's 1982 film (above) and the 1951 original.
Studio has set “Battlestar Galactica” exec producer Ron Moore to write the script and commercials director Matthijs Van Heijningen to direct the re-imagining.
New project borrows heavily from the John W. Campbell Jr. short story “Who Goes There,” the basis of the Carpenter film and 1951 Howard Hawks original “The Thing From Another World.”

Gina Thompson’s Missing You Is Being Released Worldwide On Sunset Urban!
There are few female R&B vocalists, in Gina Thompson’s case over ten (10) years ago, can attest to the success that a platinum selling artist with albums released on two different major record labels (Mercury/Motown and Elektra), working with the top record producers in the industry (Stevie J., Sean “P Diddy” Combs) and doing a single with Grammy Award Winner, Missy Elliot, can talk about it today as their new single rises up the charts.
Having sold over a million CDs worldwide, the platinum selling artist is now set to release its third (3rd) album, “Missing You” on February 3, on Sunset Urban Records. “The single went to number one right away at Music choice’s Musica Urbana Channel so we had to get this out as soon as humanly possible, and it still took a few months for Rod (Millwood) to finish the CD,” says Don Lichterman, the head of Sunset Urban. Lichterman says the Urban Record Label will work this music vigorously to HipHop radio stations and to urban format stations. “Rod (Millwood) gave us many versions of the song to work so my plan is to send this hip-hop and urban along with world music stations and reggae stations,” says Lichterman about the new CD entitled, Missing You.
