During more troubled times, the community gave Michael Vick a huge “hug.”
Now the former Warwick High School, Virginia Tech and Atlanta Falcons quarterback is returning the favor by joining with the community in a “celebration.”
In his first announced public event since being released from prison, Vick will be the featured guest at the Michael Vick Community Celebration noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at King-Lincoln Park in Newport News, organizers said.
Vick, who was recently released from federal custody after serving a sentence on charges related to dogfighting, is also scheduled to make his first public comments at the event.
He is not scheduled to take questions from the media.
The event will be hosted by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and retailer DTLR.
